The basics
Your first week on a survival server
Almost every lost first base on a survival server is avoidable, and the fix is doing things in the right order rather than the fun order.
Before you place a block
- Find the claim command and the inactivity expiry. If claims release after two weeks and you play weekends, that changes your plan.
- Ask how old the world is and whether there is an
/rtp. That decides how far you travel. - Read chat for ten minutes. Moderation quality predicts your month better than any feature list.
Day one
Use /rtp or walk well past the stripped ring around spawn. Claim a small area immediately and put
a boring hole in the ground with a door on it. Claimed and dull beats unclaimed and impressive.
Days two to four
Self-sufficiency, then income. Food, iron, a bed. Then pick one economy route and learn it properly: jobs if the server has them, a chest shop if the spread allows it, or the auction house. One route done well beats four half understood. See economies and jobs.
Day five
Expand the claim to cover where you actually intend to build, and set a second home somewhere else as a backup. Now consider joining a town or a group, deliberately after you have somewhere of your own to retreat to.
Days six and seven
Build the thing you came to build. By this point you know the claim rules, whether the economy has sinks, whether staff answer, and whether the world resets, which are the four facts that decide whether the hours are worth spending.
The four things not to do
- Do not build before you claim.
- Do not trust anyone with container access in week one.
- Do not keep everything in one base.
- Do not spend real money before you have played seven days.
