How the number one spot is decided
Three things feed it, and we run all three again every month so the list does not quietly go stale.
- Hands-on testing. Dozens of testers play the servers on our shortlist, not just the first hour. What we are looking for is whether the progression keeps going, how much of it sits behind the store, and whether a new player hits a wall.
- A player vote. We poll players on which survival server they would actually recommend, and we re-run that poll monthly rather than citing one from last year.
- Our own measurements. Every listed server is pinged every three minutes for its live player count, its 24 hour range and whether it answers on the Bedrock port. Those numbers are ours, not copied from another list.
The order that comes out of that is an editorial judgement and we label it as one rather than dressing it up as arithmetic. The methodology page sets out what we weigh and what we refuse to do, including that no position here has ever been for sale.
What TalonMC actually runs
Custom-enhanced survival built from scratch: land claiming, the economy, progression and trading are its own systems rather than off-the-shelf plugins, with custom abilities, earnable titles and milestone rewards as you progress.
Crates, boosters and ranks are earnable through play, with daily keyalls and seasonal events on top, and /freerank gives you a rank on your first join. Java and Bedrock on one address, 1.8 to 26.2, over 30,000 votes across the lists it appears on.

What we do not rank on
Raw concurrent players. It is the number every list leads with and it is close to useless for choosing where to play: most large entries are networks publishing one total across every gamemode they run, so a big figure can sit on top of a quiet survival world. We publish those counts with their scope labelled and we do not let them decide the order.
Not in the way that usually matters, though it is not a flat no either. TalonMC sells progression boosts, currently multipliers on money, job XP and catch rate, alongside ranks and crates, so paying does make you faster. What it does not do is gate anything: every rank, crate and reward on the store is also obtainable in game through playtime, votes and events, and /freerank grants a rank on your first join.
