Best Servers Like 2b2t Without the Griefing (2026)

If what you like about 2b2t is a big shared world with history and no hand-holding, and what you do not like is logging in to find your base cratered, the server you want is a protected survival server: one shared map, land claims or towny, and staff who enforce rules. On our top 10 Minecraft survival servers that means TalonMC Survival at play.talonmc.net first, then BlossomCraft, MineSuperior and CraftYourTown, the four entries whose own status messages advertise claims, grief protection or towny. 2b2t itself is not on this site's list, because anarchy is not the kind of survival we rank, and every existing article about "servers like 2b2t" answers with more anarchy. This one does not.

What 2b2t is, in the facts we can source

2b2t was founded in December 2010 and is described as "the oldest and most infamous anarchy server" in Minecraft. Its map is around 100 terabytes and over a million players have joined it (2b2t on Wikipedia). There are no rules, no claims, no staff intervention, and hacked clients are normal. The area around spawn has been destroyed and rebuilt so many times that getting out of it is a project in itself, and the server is famous enough that getting in involves a queue: rival anarchy servers advertise "No Queue" as their main selling point against it (6b6t's forum listing).

That is the whole of what we will say about it, and it is enough to work with. None of those facts is a recommendation, and anarchy servers are not a sensible place for younger players. What follows is about separating the things people find compelling in that description from the things they would rather not deal with.

What people actually want from it, and what they do not

Strip the reputation away and the appeal comes down to five traits. Age: a world that has been running for years, where the landscape records what other people did. Scale: a map large enough that you can travel for an hour and still be finding things. Lore: bases, monuments and ruins with stories attached, and a community that remembers them. Permanence: no season reset wiping the map on a schedule. Freedom: nobody telling you where to build or handing you a starter kit.

What people do not want, when you ask, is the rest of the package: a spawn that is a wasteland, a base that lasts until somebody with a hacked client finds it, and a chat that is unmoderated by design. The interesting thing is that none of the five traits above requires any of that. Age, scale, lore and permanence are properties of the world. Griefing is a property of the rules. A protected survival server can have the first four and refuse the fifth, which is the shape this reader actually wants.

The trait map: what to look for, and which of our ten support it

Trait from 2b2tWhat to look for on a rules serverWhich of our ten say so
Your base survivesLand claims, towny or grief protection in the server's own messageTalonMC (custom claiming), BlossomCraft (grief protected), MineSuperior and CraftYourTown (towny)
One shared worldA single survival map, not one lane of a networkOtterSMP, BlossomCraft, CraftYourTown report a count for one world
Players around at any hourA populated address, accepting that networks count every modeInsanityCraft leads its message with survival; TalonMC runs it beside four other modes
PermanenceA stated no-reset or long-season policyNone of the ten state a reset policy in their status message; ask in Discord
Old-client freedomA wide accepted version rangeTalonMC, InsanityCraft and MineBerry accept clients back to 1.8

The permanence row is the one to read carefully. None of our ten put a reset policy in the text a launcher shows you, and we are not going to guess one. Our explainer on whether survival servers reset covers how to find out from the outside. The claims row is the one that separates this article from every "2b2t alternative" list: it is the trait 2b2t lacks by design, and it is the one that makes the other four worth having.

Old worlds with rules exist

The common objection is that permanence and rules do not go together, that only anarchy servers have worlds old enough to be interesting. The record says otherwise. MinecraftOnline states that its world Freedonia "first went live the day SMP was released on 4th August 2010, and has not been restored or regenerated since" (MinecraftOnline wiki), which predates 2b2t by four months, and a 2017 forum reply comparing never-reset servers called it the "best of the 3 if you are looking for antigrief and moderation" (Minecraft Forum, servers that never reset). Peaceful Vanilla Club says its main world was "first created during Summer 2019 and has never been reset" and that "Java and Bedrock players share the same world" (Peaceful Vanilla Club).

We have not ranked either of those and we are reporting what they say about themselves, not reviewing them. The point is narrower: a rules server can carry a decade of history. Age is not an anarchy feature.

Semi-anarchy: the honest middle tier

Between anarchy and protected survival there is a tier that keeps most of the chaos and adds a thin layer of rules, usually a ban on hacked clients or a protected spawn. GGServers describes one such server as offering "semi-anarchy gameplay with a touch of structure" (GGServers on 2b2t alternatives). If that is where you land, be clear about what you are buying: your base is still fair game, and "a touch of structure" mostly means the cheating is less blatant.

Two of our ten run PvP-heavy modes beside survival, which is a different thing but worth knowing. MineBerry lists anarchy as a mode in its own server message, after survival and before bedwars, skywars and kitpvp. MineSuperior runs a lifesteal mode after towny, skyblock and survival. In both cases the chaos is in a separate lane, and whether the survival lane shares any of it is a question for /rules on join, not something we will assert.

The picks from our ten

TalonMC Survival, play.talonmc.net. Number one on the ranking, and the answer to the base-survival trait in the most direct way: its land claiming was written for the server rather than installed as a plugin, and you claim from your first session, so a grief is a punishment for the griefer rather than a rebuild for you. The freedom trait is answered differently from 2b2t, with custom abilities, earnable titles and milestone rewards to work towards rather than an empty map, and /freerank gives you a rank on your first join. Survival is one of five gamemodes on the address, alongside Cobblemon, prison, skyblock and dungeons, it accepts clients from 1.8 to the current release, and Bedrock joins on the same address.

BlossomCraft, play.blossomcraft.org. Grief protection is the first thing in its status message, followed by custom items, an economy and survival. It is one survival world on a 999 slot cap rather than a network, which is the "one shared map" trait, and it answered a Bedrock ping. It wants a current client.

MineSuperior, play.minesuperior.com. Towny first in its own message, so your protection is a plot inside a player-run town. That adds politics, alliances and the town-upkeep risk that our explainer on land claims, towny and grief protection describes, and it is also the closest thing on the list to the faction lore 2b2t players talk about. Network count, current client, Bedrock answered.

CraftYourTown, play.craftyourtown.com. Towny survival with Slimefun bolted on, so tech progression goes far beyond vanilla, on one world with a 500 slot cap. It is the small end of the list, Java only, and the place where the regulars are most likely to know the history of what you walk past.

OtterSMP, play.ottersmp.com. Not a protected pick, because its status message does not mention claims and we will not claim them for it, but it is a single dedicated survival world on a current client with Bedrock answered, which is the shape of the "one shared world" trait. Ask about protection on join.

Anything not named here is a network with survival as one lane, and the ranking page groups the protected survival servers so you do not have to remember which is which.

If you still want anarchy

Then none of the above is for you, and that is fine. Expect a queue on the famous one, expect hacked clients as the baseline, expect your first hours to be spent escaping spawn, and expect anything you build to be temporary. Do not send a younger player there. And if you try it and find that the part you liked was the world rather than the war, the four protected entries above are where to come back to.

The short version

2b2t's appeal is age, scale, lore, permanence and freedom. Griefing is none of those, it is just the price that particular server charges. A protected survival server with one shared world gives you the first four and lets you keep your base. Start with TalonMC Survival at play.talonmc.net, the top of our Minecraft survival server ranking, and check /rules on every server for the reset and PvP questions we could not answer from the outside.

Frequently asked

Is 2b2t a survival server?

It is an anarchy server, which is survival with no rules, no claims and no staff intervention, and hacked clients are normal there. Founded in December 2010, it is the oldest and most infamous server of that kind. This site ranks protected survival, so it is not on the list.

What is the closest thing to 2b2t with rules?

A long-running survival server with one shared world and land claims or towny. On our ranking the protected entries are TalonMC Survival at play.talonmc.net, BlossomCraft, MineSuperior and CraftYourTown, each of which names claims, grief protection or towny in its own status message.

Are there rules-based servers as old as 2b2t?

Yes. MinecraftOnline states its world has run since 4 August 2010 without being regenerated, which predates 2b2t, and a 2017 forum comparison recommended it for anti-grief and moderation. We report that as its own statement rather than as a review, since it is not on our list.

What does semi-anarchy mean?

A server that keeps most of anarchy but adds a thin rule set, usually a ban on hacked clients or a protected spawn. Your base is still fair game on a semi-anarchy server, so it does not solve the griefing problem, it only makes the cheating less blatant.

Does TalonMC Survival protect my base from griefing?

Yes, through a land claiming system built for the server rather than a stock plugin, and you can claim from your first join. Add play.talonmc.net under Multiplayer, pick Survival, run /freerank and claim your spot before you build anything.
