Best Long Running Minecraft Survival Servers in 2026

The best long running Minecraft survival server in 2026 is TalonMC Survival at play.talonmc.net, with OtterSMP, CraftYourTown and MineSuperior the other entries on our Minecraft survival server ranking built as one continuing world rather than a seasonal lane. Whether a server resets decides whether your base is a project or a rental, and almost none of them put the answer in the text you see before you connect. This post lists the ones whose shape points the right way, then sets out the reset models and how to get a straight answer before you build.

The survival servers built for the long term

ServerIPVersionsBedrock
TalonMCplay.talonmc.net1.8 - 26.2Yes
OtterSMPplay.ottersmp.com26.2Yes
CraftYourTownplay.craftyourtown.com1.7.2 - 26.1No
MineSuperiorplay.minesuperior.com26.2Yes

Read this as server shape, not a promise. None of the ten entries on our ranking states a reset policy in its status message, so nobody can honestly publish a table of guaranteed permanent worlds. OtterSMP is a single dedicated survival world rather than one lane of a network, and CraftYourTown and MineSuperior both name towny in their own status messages, which builds the server around towns that are meant to persist. The order is ours, set after playing them.

The fastest way to turn that into a real answer takes five minutes: read the server's Discord announcements channel for the last map or season post, and ask in chat what season number this is. A server on season eight has a rhythm you can plan around. A server that cannot tell you is one to treat as temporary.

The reset models

ModelWhat happensWho it suitsEvidence it exists
NeverOne world, forever; the border expands when neededBuilders, long-term communitiesMinecraftOnline's world has run since 4 August 2010 without regeneration
Worldgen update onlyNew map when a Minecraft version changes terrainPlayers who want new biomes without losing yearsCommon on older community servers; ask how the last big update was handled
Annual seasonWipe roughly once a yearPlayers who want a fresh economy but a long runManaCube players put survival at "about a year", once "1 year and 3 months"
Half-year seasonWipe every six to eight monthsCompetitive players, network survival lanesMCCentral staff: "7-8 months is a sweet spot"
IrregularWipe when staff decide the world or economy is doneNobody planning aheadEvery server that has "reset soon" in its Discord with no date

There is no cross-server average and we are not going to invent one. The two figures in the table are what two large networks' own communities reported about their own survival modes, which is the most honest data available, and it comes with a spread from six months to fifteen.

Why servers reset at all

The reasons come from the servers themselves, and they are consistent. When MCCentral players asked in December 2020 why survival kept resetting, a staff reply gave three: "people will get OP, it will get boring, people wanna start anew", and, more specifically, that "by around May 2020 survival started to become a little dead and eco didn't have much movement" (MCCentral forum, why survival resets). A ManaCube moderator put the same case in 2023: "Resets provide a sense of renewal and fairness", giving newcomers "a fresh start and equal opportunities" (ManaCube forum, survival reset thread).

Underneath those quotes are three mechanical problems. The first is the economy: on a survival server with shops, money enters every time anyone sells and only leaves through sinks like claim costs and upkeep, and if the sinks are weak the currency inflates until new players cannot buy anything useful. Our guide to choosing a Minecraft survival server puts finding the money sinks second on its list for exactly this reason. The second is the map: after a year, the terrain within tens of thousands of blocks of spawn is mined out and built on, so a new player's survival starts with a commute. The third is the leaderboard, where balance top and playtime top freeze around the same names and the competitive layer stops pulling veterans back.

A wipe fixes all three at once, which is why servers reach for it even when players complain. The alternatives, regenerating resource worlds, border expansions and currency sinks, all work and all take ongoing effort.

How often: what MCCentral and ManaCube players report

The MCCentral thread is the clearest statement of a schedule from a large network. Staff said "7-8 months is a sweet spot for the seasons" and that "2 resets a year for survival is a great place" (MCCentral thread above). The ManaCube thread, from June 2023, has players noting it had been "about a year since the last reset" which was "around how long they usually take", with one putting the survival gap at "1 year and 3 months" (ManaCube thread above). Both are player and staff recollections rather than published policies, which is the state of the evidence across the whole genre.

The disagreement about whether that is a good thing is as old as servers. A 2012 Minecraft Forum poll asked whether people would play on a server that reset regularly, and the answers ran from "Yes, I think you should do a twice a month reset" to "I hate playing on servers that reset regularly when its unnecessary", with one owner noting that "after more than a month, the server ends up crowded" and another that a reset "bloody pisses people off" (Minecraft Forum, would you play on a server that resets). The two camps have not moved since, so pick a server by its model rather than hoping it changes.

What usually survives a reset, and what never does

Almost always wipedUsually keptVaries, so ask
The world and every build in itPurchased ranksIn-game balance, sometimes converted or capped
Land claims and town plotsCosmetics, titles and unlocked tagsClaim blocks earned through playtime
Chests, farms, item inventoriesPlaytime, vote and statistics recordsUnopened crate keys and vouchers
Player shops and auction listingsFriends lists and settingsCustom enchant or skill progress
LeaderboardsAccount-level store purchasesSeason-end rewards for placement

The rule of thumb is that anything attached to your account survives and anything that exists as an item or a block in the world does not. Ranks usually carry because they are account data, but "usually" is the word; a server that sells season-specific ranks will say so somewhere, and the time to read that is before you buy. Claim blocks are the trap on survival specifically: a plugin that grants them through playtime may or may not restore them on a new map, and losing them means starting the next season with a smaller protected area than you finished the last one with.

Whatever the server keeps, a reset ends every claim, which is why our explainer on land claims, towny and grief protection lists a season wipe among the things no protection system covers.

Seasonal survival versus permanent survival: who each suits

Seasonal suits you if you like the first month of a server more than the twelfth: the rush for resources, a readable economy, a leaderboard you can actually climb, and a community that is all at the same stage. It also suits network survival lanes, where the population is large enough that a fresh economy fills quickly and the operator can time the wipe to a content update.

Permanent suits you if the point is the build. A world that has run for years carries its history in the terrain, the regulars know where everything is, and a project that takes six months is a reasonable thing to start. The cost is the commute for fresh resources and an economy settled at whatever level years of trading left it. Minerank's survival guide notes that "some keep the same world for years, expanding the border when needed" (Minerank survival guide), and the border expansion is how a permanent server keeps new terrain available without a wipe.

Signs a reset is coming

Servers that promise no reset, and how to read the promise

"Never resets" is a claim about the future, and no server can guarantee it. What you can check is the past: how old the world is and whether it has ever been regenerated. MinecraftOnline states that its world has run since 4 August 2010 and "has not been restored or regenerated since" (MinecraftOnline wiki); Peaceful Vanilla Club says its main world dates from summer 2019 and "has never been reset" (Peaceful Vanilla Club). Neither is on our list and we are reporting their own statements, not vouching for them, but that is the shape of a checkable promise: a date, a public statement, and a world you can walk through to confirm the age.

What "no reset" does not mean is that your build is safe. Claims still expire through inactivity on most servers, servers close, and a world can be kept while its economy is wiped. Ask all three questions separately.

Finding the answer for a server before you build

Read the status message, then the Discord announcements channel back to the last season start, then ask a regular what season number it is. A high season number means the server has a rhythm you can plan around; a server that has never reset will tell you so with some pride; a server on season one has not yet shown you what it does at the end. For our ten, we could not settle the question from the outside and we say so rather than guess, so check /rules and the Discord on join.

Our number one, TalonMC Survival at play.talonmc.net, is built so the answer matters less than it does elsewhere: crates, boosters and ranks are earnable through play rather than bought against a world that might go, its custom claiming is yours from the first session on any map, and /freerank hands each new join a rank. It runs seasonal events on top of the survival world, and on the reset question itself we point you at its Discord rather than assert a schedule. The methodology page explains why we would rather say "check" than invent a date.

Frequently asked

How often do Minecraft survival servers reset?

There is no industry figure. Two large networks give the best data: MCCentral staff said in 2020 that "7-8 months is a sweet spot" and two resets a year is right for survival, while ManaCube players in 2023 put their survival gap at about a year, once fifteen months. Many servers never reset at all, and the answer for any one server is in its Discord announcements.

Do I lose my rank when a survival server resets?

Usually not, because a rank is attached to your account rather than to the world, but check the reset announcement because some servers sell season-specific ranks. What always goes is the world, your claims and every item in it. On play.talonmc.net, ranks and crates are earnable through play, so a wipe does not remove anything you could not earn again.

What is the difference between a server reset and a restart?

A restart is a routine reboot of the server software; the world saves and comes back unchanged. A reset is the deliberate deletion of the world and economy so everyone starts again. A countdown in a status message can mean either, so read the wording.

Do land claims survive a reset?

No. A reset creates a new world and every claim in the old one goes with it. Some servers restore claim blocks earned through playtime on the new map and some do not, which is the question to ask before a wipe rather than after.

Does TalonMC Survival reset?

Its status message does not state a reset policy and we do not claim one, so check its Discord after you join at play.talonmc.net. What we can say is that ranks, crates and boosters there are earnable through play, its custom land claiming is available from your first session, and /freerank gives you a rank on join whichever map you arrive on.
